Salt air speeds up the breakdown of timber finishes, so a fence that needs oiling every two to three years inland might need it every twelve to eighteen months right on the Mount's beachfront. If low maintenance matters more than the timber look, aluminium, composite, or PVC will save you time and money over the life of the fence
