Premium Fencing Tailored for the Tauranga Climate
A fence is more than just a boundary — it's the frame for your home and your first line of security. Klinks is a Tauranga fencing company specialising in residential fencing and commercial fencing across the Bay of Plenty. From the salt air of Mount Maunganui to the wind-swept hills of Welcome Bay, our fence builders understand what it takes to build structures that genuinely last in this environment.
Whether you need a sleek glass pool fence to meet local council safety standards or a classic timber boundary for a new build in Papamoa, our team delivers workmanship that stands the test of time
Glass Pool Fencing
Modern, frameless glass pool fencing designed to meet all TCC safety standards. We use toughened safety glass and marine-grade hardware to provide unobstructed views and total compliance for homes in Bethlehem and Matua.
Aluminium Pool Fence
A durable, cost-effective safety choice. Our aluminium pool fencing is 100% rust-proof and powder-coated to survive the Mount Maunganui salt air. Features child-proof, self-closing latches that exceed NZ pool regulations.
Stabi Fence (Composite)
The ultimate low-maintenance boundary for Pyes Pa and The Lakes. Stabi Fence combines the look of timber with the strength of composite—it won’t warp, rot, or require painting, even in high-wind zones.
PVC Fencing
Get a clean, classic look that never ages. Our PVC boundary fencing is impervious to the Tauranga sun and salt. It offers total privacy without the maintenance of timber—no peeling, no rotting, and no painting required.
Ali Slat (Aluminium Slat)
Sleek horizontal aluminium slat fencing provides modern privacy and essential airflow. Available in popular colors like Grey Friars, these rust-resistant screens are perfect for front boundaries and coastal Papamoa properties.
Timber fence - Radiata Pine (H3)
Premium Laminata with Tongue & Groove (T&G) fencing for 100% privacy and noise reduction. The Laminata interlocking system ensures a solid, "good-neighbor" boundary that stays perfectly straight. A high-end finish for any Tauranga home.
Choosing the Right Fence for Your Tauranga Property
As experienced fencing contractors serving Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty, we handle fence installation for everything from single residential sections to large-scale commercial fencing projects, always with the same attention to detail and no hidden costs.
Timber Fencing: The classic Kiwi choice. We use high-quality H3.2 and H4 treated pine to ensure your boundary resists the damp conditions of the Bay of Plenty winters. Ideal for privacy and value in suburbs like Brookfield and Greerton.
Aluminium Slat & Panel: Our top recommendation for Mount Maunganui and Papamoa. Aluminium is naturally rust-proof and handles salt-spray without corroding, offering a modern, low-maintenance look that lasts for decades.
Glass & Aluminium Pool Fencing: We specialize in TCC-compliant pool barriers. Our glass systems provide unobstructed views of your landscaping while meeting every safety requirement of the Building Act.
Retaining & Fencing Combos: With Tauranga’s hilly topography (common in Welcome Bay and Bethlehem), we often integrate fencing with timber or concrete sleeper retaining walls to maximize your usable land.
What our customers say
Local Compliance & Coastal Durability: Built for Tauranga Conditions
Fencing in Tauranga involves more than just selecting a style; it requires navigating specific Tauranga City Council (TCC) bylaws and the unique environmental demands of the Bay of Plenty. At Klinks, we specialize in boundary solutions that are both legally compliant and built to survive our coastal climate.
TCC Pool Safety & Boundary Standards: We ensure every installation meets the latest Tauranga City Council safety barrier requirements. Whether it's the mandatory 1.2m height for pool fencing or navigating the 1.5m road boundary setbacks in Medium Density Residential Zones, we handle the technical details. We build to satisfy TCC inspections the first time, from self-latching gate hardware to non-climbable zones.
Corrosion Resistance for Coastal Suburbs: Living in Mount Maunganui, Papamoa, or Matua means constant exposure to salt spray and high UV levels. We prioritize marine-grade stainless steel fixings and high-durability powder-coated aluminium to prevent the "white rust" and timber rot common in coastal New Zealand homes. Our materials are selected to withstand the High Wind Zones identified in the Bay of Plenty regional wind maps.
Subdivision Covenants & The Lakes Expertise: Newer developments like The Lakes (Pyes Pa), Tauriko, and Omokoroa often have strict private land covenants that dictate fence height, color (such as specific Grey Friars or Ironsand tones), and material. We are familiar with these local developer guidelines, ensuring your new fence enhances your property value without breaching title restrictions.
Topography & Retaining Solutions: Tauranga’s hilly terrain in areas like Welcome Bay or Bethlehem often requires integrated fencing and retaining. We manage the "cumulative height" rules—where a fence sits atop a retaining wall—to ensure your boundary remains under the 2.5m limit that triggers a formal building consent.
Boundary Fencing: Your Rights and the Fencing Act 1978
Replacing a shared boundary fence in Tauranga usually involves a conversation with your neighbor. Under the Fencing Act 1978, neighbors typically share the cost of an "adequate" fence.
The Fencing Notice: Before work begins, you should provide a formal Fencing Notice to your neighbor. We can provide you with a template to make this process professional and clear.
Shared Costs: In most cases, the cost of a standard 1.8m timber fence is split 50/50. If you want a premium upgrade (like glass or custom aluminium), you may be responsible for the difference in cost.
Hassle-Free Process: Klinks can provide split-invoices for neighbors, making the financial side of the project transparent and easy for both parties.
Treatment Ratings Explained: H3.2 vs H4
Not all treated pine is equal, and the treatment rating matters more than most people realise. Using the wrong specification is one of the most common reasons timber fences fail prematurely in the Bay of Plenty's damp winters and humid summers.
H3.2 treated pine is suitable for above-ground applications where the timber is exposed to weather but not in contact with the ground. We use H3.2 for fence rails, palings, and boards — the parts of your fence that sit above the base.
H4 treated pine is specified for ground contact — posts and any timber that sits in or near the soil. H4 carries a higher level of preservative treatment to resist the moisture, fungal decay, and insect activity that would quickly degrade a lighter-treated post. Using H3.2 posts in the ground is a shortcut that leads to early rot — it's something we see regularly when homeowners ask us to repair or replace fences installed by others.
At Klinks, we never mix up these specifications. Every fence we build uses the correct treatment grade for each component, giving you a structure that's built to last in Tauranga's climate.
Timber Fencing in Tauranga
Timber is the most popular fencing choice for Tauranga homeowners — and for good reason. It's versatile, cost-effective, and suits everything from a simple boundary on a new Papamoa subdivision to a character fence around an older Greerton bungalow. At Klinks, we use high-quality treated pine as our standard timber, specified correctly for the application so your fence performs for decades rather than years.
Good Neighbour Fencing
Good neighbour fencing is designed to look equally finished from both sides of the boundary. There are no exposed rails or posts facing your neighbour's property; instead, the fence presents a clean, attractive face in both directions.
It's the most considerate choice for shared boundaries, and increasingly the expected standard in Tauranga's newer subdivisions where sections sit close together and both properties benefit equally from the fence.
Good neighbour fencing is also the most straightforward style to cost-share under the Fencing Act 1978, since both parties receive equal value from the finished structure — there's no "good side" and "bad side" to negotiate over.
We build good neighbour fencing in both timber and composite, with a range of profile and height options to suit your boundary and any applicable subdivision covenants.
Rough Sawn vs Smooth Timber: Which Should You Choose?
The finish of your timber boards affects both the look and the long-term performance of your fence, and it's a decision worth making deliberately rather than leaving to chance.
Rough sawn timber has a natural, textured surface straight from the mill. It holds paint and stain particularly well because the open grain absorbs treatment deeply. Rough sawn is also slightly less expensive and suits traditional or rustic-style homes. Not many people choose rough-sawn though.
Smooth (machine gauged) timber is planed to a consistent dimension with a clean, even surface. It gives a more contemporary, refined appearance and is the preferred choice for modern homes, new builds, and any fence that needs to meet strict covenant specifications in developments like The Lakes or Tauriko. Smooth timber is also easier to clean and maintain over time.
Both options are available in H3.2 and H4 grades and can be painted, stained, or left to weather naturally — though we always recommend a quality exterior oil or stain to protect your investment in Tauranga's high-UV environment.

Still have questions?

In most cases, you do not need a building consent for a residential fence under 2.0 metres in height. However, specific rules apply for fences on corner sites or those acting as pool barriers. We recommend checking the Tauranga City Council (TCC) District Plan, or we can advise you during our on-site measure.

For homes in Mount Maunganui and Papamoa, we highly recommend powder-coated aluminium or PVC fencing. These materials are "marine-grade" and won't rust or rot when exposed to salt spray, unlike standard steel or untreated timber.
-
Under the Fencing Act 1978, neighbors are generally liable to share the cost of an "adequate" boundary fence. We suggest providing a formal Fencing Notice 21 days before work begins. To make it easier, Klinks can provide split-invoicing to handle the payments separately.
-
Yes. Much of Tauranga’s topography, particularly in Welcome Bay and Ohauiti, requires stepped fencing or integrated retaining. We specialize in contouring fences to your land's specific slope to ensure a secure and level finish.
Gates to Match Your Fence
A fence without a well-considered gate is a missed opportunity. At Klinks, we design and build gates as part of every fencing project — or as a standalone install — ensuring your entry point matches the style, material, and finish of the rest of your boundary.
We work with timber, aluminium, and steel across a range of styles:
Automatic sliding and swing gates for homeowners who want security and convenience without leaving the car. We install and commission gate motors, intercoms, and keypad or remote entry systems across Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty.
Pedestrian gates for side access and front entries, built to complement your fence line and fitted with quality latches and self-closing hinges where required for pool compliance.
Double driveway gates for wider vehicle entries, available in timber or powder-coated aluminium to suit both traditional and contemporary Tauranga homes.
All our gates are built to the same specification as our fencing — correct treatment grades, marine-grade hardware for coastal suburbs, and finishes that hold up in Tauranga's UV and salt air.
